UCLA

The ever so ubiquitous and equally as elusive Blu drops yet another release out of the blue (pun intended) with UCLA, and as quickly as the album makes its Bandcamp debut, it takes an Irish exit.  Unlike the previously released Bandcamp blog burner, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them (which is also no longer available on Bandcamp), which finds the L.A. emcee reuniting with Exile (circa Below The Heavens), we find Blu collabing with Oxnard’s Madlib on yet another seemingly spontaneous and short lived release.  The album doesn’t seem mixed or mastered, yet it’s definitely Blu doing what he does best over choice cuts courtesy of the Loop Digga. Leave it to Blu to drop an album unannounced on a Sunday and still receive more exposure in minutes for an album whose lifespan didn’t even make it to the halftime of the Knicks x Mavericks game, than your entire album campaign, in its entirety.  Luckily I purchased the album prior to its disappearing act…peep a few of ’em here.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
