lupe fiasco

After the Atlantic-steered disappointment that was Lasers last year, Lupe Fiasco has a lot to make up for with his next album. Having played his cards relatively close to his chest about his hugely anticipated fourth studio LP Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album, aside from a few tweets of progress updates and announcing the record to be a double album (hallelujah!), the Chi-Town rapper-poet debuted the first single from the project yesterday with “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)”. Encompassing that same politically-driven spirit as before, Lupe reignites his lyrical integrity over a beat sampling Pete Rock’s classic ’92 anthem, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” (which didn’t sit well with the super producer). Nevertheless, it looks like we can all rest assured that Lupe Fiasco is indeed back. Stream “Around My Way” below, cop the single on iTunes and stay tuned for Food & Liquor 2 to arrive later this year.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
