“Runnin The Show” as featured on Oh No’s opus Ohnomite, which dropped this week is nothing short of surprises. As soon as the beat drops, there’s this throbbing bass groove that immediately grabs you. Around the 30 second marker, I couldn’t help but notice the classic Dolomite tagline ‘Can you dig it?,” which Oh No was privi’ed too, courtesy of Rudy Ray Moore granting him access to the soundtrack’s master files. That snippet stood out so distinctly, from its use in Black Attack’s infectious 1997 released classic 12″ “Verbal Attack,” featuring Problemz, produced by the amazing production duo of Godfather Don and V.I.C., collectively known as the Groove Merchantz (stream below). The third and final surprise came in the form of Erick Sermon’s guest feature, who is a perfect match for the production value of this track. The green eyed bandit definitely brought the quotables too, but what I especially love about E is how he has a knack for making his presence felt from the moment he jumps in on a track and starts his verse…which is exemplified here.
Ey yo..Erick in the house Oh No, take cover, fake ni**as step back one row/ Yo this flow is a Mississippi RIver, and it’s Super Fly as if Missy was his sister/ Young mother fucker man, addresss me as Mr., cats gather round like it’s Bar Mitzvah/ All lookin’ around debating’ if I’m nice, PMD couldn’t make it, so I’m a have to wreck it twice…
