Two new songs featuring Drake, Flex‘s monster new mixtape or the launch of Twitter Music; forget what happened this week if it didn’t have anything to do with Jay-Z. Even 10 days since “Open Letter” impacted, Hov was a mainstay in the headlines. Let’s recap:

• He scored one of seven new TIME magazine “100 Most Influential People in the World” covers
• He and Mrs. Carter were crowned the music industry’s first billionaire couple (surprise, surprise)
• He confirmed the sale of his share (that 0.67%? Yeah, a cool $350,000) in the Brooklyn Nets — a move that allows him to become a fully-fledged NBA agent

Anyway, while we all weren’t collectively dreaming about living Hov’s life, the hip-hop world continued spinning. Here are our five favorite releases from the past seven days that you might have slept on:

1) Curtis Williams (of Two9) – “Automatic”

It was only recently when I decided to finally bend my ear to Atalnta’s Two9 crew, and everything since has been on point. Including this new solo cut from Curtis Williams, “Automatic.”

2) IamSu! (feat. CJ) – “Losin”

Directed by: HBKGADGET

Although currently in full swing on the Million Dollar Afro tour with Problem, one of Bay’s best new talents, IamSu!, refers back to last year’s $uzy 6 $peed mixtape for some fresh visuals.

3) Stan Ipcus – “Clark Griswold”

White Plains, New York’s Stan Ipcus channels inspiration from fellow rapping daddy Action Bronson and samples Jimi Hendrix‘s Band of Gypsys live album into one super dope ode to our favorite Chevy Chase character, Clark Griswold.

4) Ryshon Jones – “God’s Broken Smile”

Directed by: Ryshon Jones & Latasha Alcindor

Some trippy new visuals from the Philly MC you all need to quit sleeping on, Ryshon Jones. Find the track on his recent In Theory album, available here.

5) Jae Millz – “Barstool Flow” (prod. By Harry Fraud)

We’ll be the first to admit Jae Millz isn’t a name we check for a whole lot, but this new Harry Fraud-produced cut deserves the download time. Millzy gets on his barstool flow on this one.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.

  1. Blu & Nottz (feat. Rashad) – “End of the World”
  2. CJ Fly (feat. A La $oul & Phife Dawg) – “Seek Well”
  3. Boldy James (feat. Earl Sweatshirt, Da$h & Domo Genesis) – “Reform School” (prod. by The Alchemist)
  4. Danny Brown (feat. Scrufizzer) – “Dubstep”
  5. Black Milk – “Dismal”
  6. Alterbeats (feat. Guilty Simpson & The Rockness Monstah) – “Fruit Punch”
  7. Snow Tha Product (feat. CyHi The Prynce) – “Hold You Down”
  8. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – “Harold’s”
  9. Childish Gambino – “Yaphet Kotto”
  10. Stan Ipcus – “Wifey Material”
