Ever since I peeped “The Vibe” with Oddisee & Hassaan Mackey about a month ago, I’ve been eagerly awaiting The Audible Doctor‘s The Summer Tape to drop and after giving it a solid listen through, I’ve decided that this project is without a doubt a contender for one of the best EPs of the year.Though all of the tracks are primarily boom bap, the Doc keeps it fresh with the use of some smooth horns and piano pieces.

After the cool introduction of “Wings Part 2” and “The Vibe” (you can check out the post I did for that one right here), we get some huge worldplay courtesy of Guilty Simpson on “Get Em.” Boston’s very own Edo G supplies some dope verses which will have you have you chanting “Edo and the Audible Doctor, the new roster” for days.

Following that,Davenport Grimes speaks the realness over a somber jam on “Shiny Things”, while Kurious spits a pretty cool flow over “Thought of You.” The closing track, “Dirty Ni**a” (once which has a catchy chorus, but one I’ll most likely choose not to rap along with), has Chaundon rapping over a piano heavy joint. Make sure you give this one a listen.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
