It’s been said that money and fame don’t change a person, but enhance their particular qualities. Though many of us like to believe that there’s always a correlation between money and problems, it doesn’t mean that those of us with a little extra can’t help our fellow man.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Queens’ very own Nas spearheaded a campaign to assist Stanley Young, a former construction worker from Washington and father of eight, who recently lost his home due to a tragic accident involving a fire that destroyed much of his belongings. Although the family was residing at a local Holiday Inn, Young wasted no time in reaching out to his friends and members of his church group in order to assist his family during the rough times. His luck took a sudden turn for the better when Nas’ manager discovered the story and told the Hip-Hop legend.

According to Nas, “single fathers don’t get enough credit in this country”; the master wordsmith immediately set up a campaign on Crowdtilt, a funding platform similar to IndieGoGo and Kickstarter that assists in garnering the resources applicable for creating any given project. Nas quickly reached out to his Twitter followers and, at the time of writing, has rallied the people to contribute over $60,000 for the family.

This week, we’ve got an eclectic mix of tunes from the likes of JGivens, GoldLink, Mic Handz, Alex Wiley, and Theo3.

1) JGivens- “Bienvennue”

2) GoldLink (prod. by Ta-ku) – “Electronic Relaxation”

3) Mic Handz (feat. Money Bag Maj) – “Patchwork”

4) Alex Wiley – “K-Swiss”

5) Theo3 – “In a Heartbeat”

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
