Although a lot of events went down in the world of Hip Hop this week (everything from Eminem‘s new track, “Rap God” blowing up the Internet to Master P getting divorced; in all actuality of the latter, he should of just made her say ugh) no story is as sad as this: Q-Tip has announced that A Tribe Called Quest‘s last show will take place on November 24 at Madison Square Garden.
In preparation of Kanye West‘s Yeezus tour with the enigmatic Kendrick Lamar, Ye has decided to bring along fellow G.O.O.D. Music label mate Pusha T and the legendary A Tribe Called Quest for a number of dates. It’s an interesting concept: both Kendrick & Pusha are still relatively new to the game and have a lot more potential in them; Kanye, who’s latest project, Yeezus, was met with some polarizing views, is slowly trickling into classic territory with his eclectic catalogue; and Tribe, who definitely need no introduction. Whether it’s due to the fact that Mr. West cites them as one of his favourite Hip Hop groups or the fact that the trio made up of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad has decided to focus on their own projects is unimportant.
Whether you’re a Tribe stan through and through or you’ve only heard “Electric Relaxation” once, it’s always bittersweet to see a band perform their swan song, especially when the group has been extremely influential and instrumental in the success of many groups to come. But their is hope: this isn’t the first time that the group have decided to call it quits. Back in 1998 (and, ironically after they finished their last album, The Love Movement) the group parted ways. Let’s hope that history repeats itself and someone out there has the money to book em.
Here’s 5 tracks that you might have missed during the highs and lows of the week:

2) Rapsody – “Mass Hysteria”
3) Boldy James, Problem & Jarren Benton “How Much”
4) Angel Haze – “Shabba Freestyle”
5) Kaytranada – “Hilarity Duff”
