The landscape of indie hip-hop changes forever with the release of Cas One’s The Monster and the Wishing Well, a 16-track opus that defies the traditional definition of hip-hop and gives it a fresh meaning.

Though I’m not much of a basketball fan (my knowledge of the game was chiefly due to NBA Jam,) I’m a big fan of Allen Iverson’s famous practice speech and the even more infamous drinking jam that emerged from the event.

To quote C.S. Lewis,”Thirty was so strange for me. I’ve really had to come to terms with the fact that I am now a walking and talking adult.” After becoming a widely recognized rapper and actor, it seems that Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino has crossed the late twentysomething threshold and has reached his eventual adulthood.

Smoke DZA hasn’t dropped a lot of tracks lately, but the Harlem emcee always seems to undeniably put quality of quantity within his music. Joining forces with with the always amazing Harry Fraud, “Obey Your Thirst” has The Kush God flowing with some heavy trap instrumentals.

With posse cuts being few and far between these days (the last really dope one being “1 Train” from Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, A$AP Rocky, Action Bronson, Danny Brown, Yelawolf and Big K.R.I.T), it’s refreshing to hear a new bunch of dope emcees all together on a track

Here’s an interesting idea: what if we took the best parts of MF DOOM & Madlib‘s 2004 classic Madvillany and spliced them with the legendary beats of J Dilla? Sounds too good to be true? Well now it’s a reality.

Although Joey Bada$$ may the poster child for the emerging Beast Coast movement, the Summer Knights emcee knows how to properly keep his collective in the limelight. Case in point: CJ Fly and his latest tape, Thee Way Eye See It, which maintains that feel good Pro Era vibe while introducing some fresh concepts.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
