Zenith

If you ask me to review an album by Grayskul, I am going to say, “Yes,” especially if that album features Aesop Rock, Raekwon, DJ Spark and other fairly awesome contributors. Especially also if it is called Zenith and arrived September 17th to relieve a relative drought of exceptional releases. That said, g’head and hit the jump to check out the review for Zenith in its entirety – Spotify album stream included.

Oscar O’Malley‘s Orange Starburst Baboon An Da First Offense Vol. 1 (try saying that 5 times in a row really fast) has the NY emcee killing over a number of dope instrumentals, including ones from Aesop Rock, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Raekwon plus more. Stream/download OSB after the jump…

H&V

Another week, another controversy. This time, New York Senator Malcolm Smith has demanded an apology from Young Money boss Lil Wayne for saying that he doesn’t like New York. I am honestly surprised that this flippant statement warranted the attention of a government official. Is it THAT serious? Really? Considering that Lil Wayne has a considerable fan base in the east coast state…it was a little careless. But I’m sure that when he comes down and gets the opportunity to explain in depth exactly what he meant, it’ll all make sense and everybody can go back to loving each other again.

Lil Wayne aside…here’s my five top picks of the week. Shouts to Adrift Da Belle, Stoop Kids, Aesop Rock, KaliRaps and Devine Carama.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
