With our sixth Asaad post since our inception, we’ve been following this Illadelph upcomer all through his New Black ® History Month mixtape campaign and with each leak, word of this burgeoning artist has spread both rapidly and exponentially. Despite the relentless inundation of new artists flooding the information super highway, the one constant that ‘for the most part’ remains, is that the cream rises to the top. Although the overall impact of both his music and career are a work in progress, his seemingly overnight acclaim has been duly noted by bloggers and tastemakers from ip addresses the world over. After listening to just a few of his songs, you’ll notice that Asaad is wise beyond his years and is influenced by music that predates the genre. Although his style contains adequate doses of swag, he’ll urge to remind you that he don’t fuck with hipsters, he’s cooler with the thugs. That being said, allow the Takin’ Mines massive to introduce you to this Philly favorite by way of New Black ® History Month, as we breakdown several cuts off this standout offering…hit the jump to look, listen and learn.

We here at TM like Asaad. As you can see, his name is taking up a good amount of real estate on our tag cloud. So after several ‘leaks’, it should be of no surprise to see his latest au-gratis release, New Black ® History Month featured in the mine. Although the mixtape download is offered (after the jump), expect to see a more in depth synopsis to grace our rap pages, but for now, I’ll just give my two cents for the cut “B Sect”, which you can peep along with the mixtape dl after the jump…

Visuals for song off upcoming mixtape, New Black. Asaad showing his versatility with a track that in the wrong hands would end up as “cloud rap” but his direct delivery keeps this from being meandering vocals over keyboard swooshes.

Played this record 10 times already today, dude is one my favorite new emcees. Technically advanced delivery in same vein as Black Thought or Elzhi but with personality thats brings you into his world `a la Lil B. #LyricallyBased

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
