Cassidy and Meek Mill‘s war of words may have petered out, but Joey Bada$$ and Lil B filled in for the latest episode of Lame Hip-Hop Beefs That Escalate Quickly. Yup, that was the story that captured our fickle attention this week. So while we all await to see how this whole situation unfolds in the week ahead, here’s some of the best music from the past seven days from Skyzoo, The Underachievers, Big Daddy Kane, Fizzyology and The Purist to keep you occupied.. hit the jump.

IsntThatIronic

Hip-Hop has journeyed through several eras over the years, but none not quite as ironic as the genre’s current state of affairs. From rap’s Golden Era of the mid-late 80’s through the early 90’s, to the commercial vs. underground rift of the mid-late 90’s that’s sparked a cultural diaspora, have we come full circle, or are we lost as sea? They say that to know where you’re going, you need to know where you’ve been, and Hip-Hop more than any other cultural phenomenon has neglected these ethos, leaving us to wonder – where are we now? It seems safe to say that we have now embarked upon an era marked more by it’s irony then by its cultural solidarity. Welcome to the Era of Irony..

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
