This week was definitely a funny one; and it was yet more proof that 2013 might just be the craziest year in hip-hop so far.

Plus: the week’s best slept-on releases from Ro Ransom, Derek Wise, Noah Jones and Jay Rock, Papoose and DJ Premier, and Rilgood.

Chase N. Cashe has a thing for sequels. We’ve seen “Trill Living” transform into a four-series extension, and now the Surf Club producer/rapper brings us an updated (but no less boastful) version of 2012′s The Heir Up There Cut, “I’m The Man.” Given the continued success he’s achieved in these last 12 months, Chase fully deserves a pass to get cocky on “I’m The Man 2.0″ — a track highlighted by its blend of Harry Fraud-esque horns and rattling trap foundation, a la Southside. This is exactly what we were hoping the first sample of Heir Wavy would sound like.

Aside from the continued debate in the rap writing world about “cultural tourism” (coined by Rap Radar’s own B.Dot), this week was nostalgic, to say the least. Hit the jump to check out this week’s Heroes & Super Villains – shouts to Fearce Vill, SpaceGhostPurrp, Chase N. Cashe, Kami de Chukwu and Truck North.

While we’re still digging into his debut LP, CHARM, which arrived in November, Chase N. Cashe returns to the kitchen to cook up more heat. “I Can Do That” is the name of this new dish, and is sure to be one of the more appetizing items on LA Leakers’ 2013 Draft Picks mixtape, which we can expect to be sampling later today.

Two of hip-hop’s trendiest MCs Chase N. Cashe team up for “Beastin,’” the second release from the former’s upcoming CHARM album. Like the title suggests, this one hears both spitters go beastmode. With araabMUZIK, Jahlil Beats and Smoke DZA contributing, expect more bangers on CHARM, which drops November 12.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.

  1. Blu & Nottz (feat. Rashad) – “End of the World”
  2. CJ Fly (feat. A La $oul & Phife Dawg) – “Seek Well”
  3. Boldy James (feat. Earl Sweatshirt, Da$h & Domo Genesis) – “Reform School” (prod. by The Alchemist)
  4. Danny Brown (feat. Scrufizzer) – “Dubstep”
  5. Black Milk – “Dismal”
  6. Alterbeats (feat. Guilty Simpson & The Rockness Monstah) – “Fruit Punch”
  7. Snow Tha Product (feat. CyHi The Prynce) – “Hold You Down”
