Although the ‘authenticity’ of several of the other previously released leaks off Uncle L’s thirteenth studio album Authentic, which drops today, have come into question, there’s no denying the credibility of a Premo x Cool J collab.

*UPDATE: According to DJ Premier’s twitter account, Premo is not responsible for the production on this track. At least my blurb mentioned that it lacked that Premo’esque rawness, so for lack of better words, I wont take it personal.

With tomorrow marking three years since Guru‘s untimely passing, Marco Polo rounds up his Gang Starr partner DJ Premier and Talib Kweli for this tribute track, “G.U.R.U.” What’s more, it’s the lead single from Marco’s PA2: The Director’s Cut album (out July), which will also feature Organized Konfusion, Styles P, Inspectah Deck, Large Professor and Posdnuos.

Tomorrow marks the three-year anniversary of the passing of the legendary G.U.R.U. of Gang Starr. I decided to this leak this record one day early to ensure DJ’s and everyone can have it ready for his anniversary and it can be played tomorrow. This is one of the most important records I’ve ever been a part of. Thank you to Talib Kweli and DJ Premier for being a part of this incredible record! We will also be premiering the “G.U.R.U.” video very soon (which is directed by Todd Angkasuwan) so stay tuned. Please help share this record and celebrate the life of an artist who influenced myself and so many others in Hip-Hop and music period! R.I.P. Keith Edward Elam aka G.U.R.U. (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal)! – Marco Polo

The motherlovin’ saga continues.. for our sixth installment of Friday Flips, Refined Hype‘s Nathan S. and Takin’ Mines once again join forces, this time breaking down the Premo produced “Rhyme No More” interpolation used on Pusha T’s “Numbers on the Boards” single which lit up the internet this week. Hit the jump as we serve up that edutainmment. In the wise words of Swizz Beatz, “y’all gonna learn today…”

As we wind down and enjoy a rare breather this Easter Sunday, there’s plenty of big, big hip-hop announcements from the past week to reflect on. And, as always, check out out five favorite dope-but-slept-on releases, this time from MeLo-X, IamSu!, DeLorean, Uptown XO and DJ Finesse.

Yo it’s about that time, to bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme. Yes, I just quoted Marky Mark, but I’m feeling rather giggity giggity cause it’s Friday.. and you know what that means – it’s another installment of #FridayFlips beeitches. Now although we took a brief hiatus over the past two weeks, we’re back, and we got a real humdinger for ya’. This week, we breakdown Pat Streater‘s use of Ahmad Jamal‘s “The Awakening” on “Visionary Music,” from Manny, featuring J57. The song, which managed to make its rounds on the interweb earlier this week, also borrows the infamous Melvin Bliss “Synthetic Substitution” drum loop, which the homey Nathan S. of Refined Hype breaks down. So without further adieu, hold on to your seats kiddies and hit the jump as we drop some more edutainment on that ass…

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
