DomoGenesis

Having put only one leak out prior to its release, Domo Genesis and The Alchemist‘s collaborative project No Idols was one of the most anticipated hip-hop releases of the Summer, if not the year. Today, with the record in hand (digitally speaking), the proof is most definitely in the pudding.

domo genesis

It was just this weekend that Hodgy Beats and Left Brain gave us a new goodie with “Fakuoy”, and now their Odd Future compadre Domo Genesis tops up our musical collection. To be featured on his forthcoming collaborative project with established beatsmith The Alchemist, No Idols, here we have the first cut with “Elimination Chamber”. It’s a slow burner, one that embodies everything that is so damn good about Alc’s sound: a sliced soul sample; choppy rhythm; and, above all, sonic arrogance. The instrumental sounds like it could have been tailored for any of the featured emcees – Domo, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples and Action Bronson – ’til they said “fuck it,” and invited everyone to the party. No Idols might just be as good as we anticipated. A release date is soon to be announced.

Tyler The Creator

The Odd Future boys are back it. After releasing a poster for this short film online earlier this week, here we have the official video for “Sam Is Dead”, the Tyler, The Creator and Domo Genesis-double-teamed track taken from OF Tape Vol. 2.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
