FridayFlips

I know, I know.. this column’s been on hiatus for a minute, but we’d like to consider it more of a sabbatical than a complete absence, as rap nerdery is never truly on vacation. That said, yours truly along with our faithful compadre Nathan from Refined Hype have decided to get the ol’ band back together for another exciting edition of Friday Flips. So go on, hit the jump as we break down the sample history on Jackie Moore‘s “With Your Love” and its use on Flatbush Zombie‘s “Club Soda,” produced by Erick Arc Elliott, and Planet Asia‘s “Right Or Wrong,” produced by Evidence. Let the back flips begin…

RewindWednesdays

Since this week is an ‘All Kanye Everything’ affair, it only makes sense to have him as the focal point of this week’s edition of #RewindWednesdays. Well, part of the focal point, along with Dilated Peoples, for their 2004 released single “This Way,” as featured on Dilated’s fourth studio album, Neighborhood Watch. Hit the jump and check to peep the visuals, and keep and eye out for cameos from Alchemist, Xzibit, Phil the Agony, Krondon, the Gracies, John Legend, Charlie Tuna, and DMC.

MikeTyson

Sean Price’s third solo album, Mic Tyson, finally hits stores, October 30, but not before his Pharoahe Monch-assisted, DJ Babu and Evidence-produced “BBQ Sauce” banger impacts on our speakers first. Over zipping digital textures, Sean P and P Monch seamlessly blend lyrical brashness with immature humour, hardly making for perfect BBQ soundtrack material, but a track that’s both hard and hilarious at the same (damn) time. Get a taste below.

Evidence

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Evidence’s sophomore studio effort, Cats & Dogs. Sure, the record was more than dope to warrant burn in the speakers for a full 365, but new music never hurts, right? The Dilated Peoples unearths this gem entitled “Sakura” from the vault, which was originally produced by Twiz The Beat Pro and 2011, and arrives in its final draft with a killer guest verse from Planet Asia.

AWAR3

AWAR’s going to be getting more and more burn in the future here on Takin’ Mines, as his latest album The Laws of Nature has slid itself into the rotation for review. This latest video with Evidence proves that AWAR’s consistent with his content (and his album’s not half-bad, either). The video also happens to be a clever watch as well, so check it out after the jump.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
