lilwayne

Four of rap’s biggest players, Lil Wayne, Drake, Future and producer Mike WiLL Made It, help cap off 2012 and bring in the celebrations for 2013 with this all-star anthem. By no means is “Good Kush & Alcohol” instantly one of the best hits of the year (sorry Tunechi, Kendrick and Dre‘s “The Recipe” gets our vote), but the quadruplet do combine well for an infectious, spacey ballad; a shoe-in for radio play and club spins. The single is reportedly destined for Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being II album, due out in stores February 19.

PushaT

Kanye West has said Pusha T’s debut solo album (out 2013 on G.O.O.D. Music) reminds him of “Hell,” so it’s only fitting that the first single is titled “Pain.” Debuted yesterday, the track stays true to its title, serving up a gruelling Kanye-produced beat which is tag-teamed by a snarling Pusha Ton and an Auto-Tune-doused Future. All of a sudden, that whole “Hell” comparison doesn’t sound so exaggerated. You can stream “Pain” below.

Pluto

With space fresh on my mind after a long car conversation with an aerospace engineer friend of mine about conspiracy theories purporting we’ve actually been back to the Moon a number of times and government withholds space age spaceship building materials from the general population, I entered Pluto. Pluto is long and well crafted, consistently high quality throughout, making it an excellent value. Combine this with the long list of excellent collaborators, and you can’t lose. This album is bold. It’s percussive, addictive, big and surprisingly romantic. Expect to hear a ton of Pluto in the club this summer, and a great deal more from Future, whose obvious talent and focus make Pluto a standout. Hit the jump to read the review for Future’s Pluto, in its entirety.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
