After much speculation and thirst, Kanye West not only announced the title and release date of his eagerly awaited sixth album, but unveiled two new singles: “New Slaves” and “Black Skinhead.”

Turning our attention of the lower echelons of the rap world, we pick our favorite slept-on releases from the past week. Thanks to Chuck Inglish, Gunplay, Julian Malone, Elijah Blake and Devine Camara.

travis scott

Travi$ Scott doesn’t have a deep catalog, but what he lacks in product, he makes up for in hype. Since garnering the attention of T.I. and Kanye West — eventually falling into the G.O.O.D. Music fold — last year, the 20-year-old Houston native has emerged as one of hip-hop’s most intriguing new faces.

He was set to officially announce himself in the game with the release of his debut EP, Owl Pharoah, today, but sample clearance issues have pushed it back once again. Instead, Scott offers up just one of its many guest-heavy cuts, “Pussy” — a chilling Mike WiLL Made It-produced banger which features MMG‘s Gunplay, GBE‘s Fredo Santana and Cool Kid Chuck Inglish.

No new release date for Owl Pharaoh, but with Kanye West, Bon Iver and Toro Y Moi also expected to feature, the anticipation only grows.

Gunplay doesn’t have time for pleasantries. Barely 24 hours after being reportedly freed from house arrest, the unpredictable MMG rapper debuts his brand new mixtape, Cops & Robbers.

He covered Raekwon’s “Guillotine Swordz” for a track on his 601 & Snort mixtape, and it appears that Gunplay has channeled further Wu-Tang energy for the accompanying visuals.

Clearly taking lessons from Shyne and Mystikal, Gunplay gives the world some new music despite being behind bars (or should I say windows; he’s only on house arrest). “The Hard Way” is the first track off the MMG rapper’s upcoming Cops N Robbers mixtape, which we hope is a slight improvement on the brilliantly-titled 601 & Snort. According to a recent tweet, we can also expect to hear the first sample of Gunplay’s Def Jam debut, Medellin, this Tuesday.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
