After such a spectacular time on the West Coast, it came to quite a shock when Guerilla Union announced that Rock The Bells won’t be happening in New York and Washington. What does this entail for the future of the company? Also, new music from Black Milk, Waldo, The LOX, Homeboy Sandman, and CJ Fly after the jump…

00-Front

The main reason you will like this album is its lack of need to be put into a thematic box to be relatable. It’s not strictly stoner Hip-Hop or emo Hip-Hop. The lyrics combined with the beats make for a project that stands apart from anything that’s been released in recent memory. Sonically, Kid Cudi has created a blend of The Doors and Kanye’s full orchestra arrangements, with some crushed barbiturates sprinkled on top. Add to that the fact that Kid Cudi portrays himself as a socially awkward pariah in the industry and boom, you have the perfect fodder for kids around the world who feel like no one else will be their friend but Scott Mescudi. See if you want to be his friend with the rest of the review and a Spotify stream after the jump

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.

  1. Blu & Nottz (feat. Rashad) – “End of the World”
  2. CJ Fly (feat. A La $oul & Phife Dawg) – “Seek Well”
