Tragedy

This new track from Marco Polo’s upcoming Newport Authority 2 is bittersweet.

There’s no rest for the wicked dramatic. As if we’ve not had enough scenes to cringe at this year, hip-hop kept the gossip machine well-fed this week with a number of public outbursts. Drama aside, we present to you our five favorite slept-on releases from the past week. Props to Eddie B, Harry Fraud, Sean Price, Pharoahe Monch, Wispers, Kosha Dillz, DJ Skizz, Lil Fame and Ill Bill this time round.

NYC singer Jared Evan dedicates a fittingly elegant, edgy record to one of our favorite pieces of cinema eye candy: Uma Thurman. M.O.P.’s Lil Fame also pitches in with a guest verse, juxtaposing Jared’s gentle croons nicely. Statik Selektah once again finds a new way to add flavor to the tried-and-tested boom bap. Find this on Mr. Evan’s Boom Bap & Blues LP, out February 26.

Cassidy and Meek Mill‘s war of words may have petered out, but Joey Bada$$ and Lil B filled in for the latest episode of Lame Hip-Hop Beefs That Escalate Quickly. Yup, that was the story that captured our fickle attention this week. So while we all await to see how this whole situation unfolds in the week ahead, here’s some of the best music from the past seven days from Skyzoo, The Underachievers, Big Daddy Kane, Fizzyology and The Purist to keep you occupied.. hit the jump.

Fizzyology

November 2012 brought us many things: a hurricane, a second term president, an abundance of wine and turkey (at least that was my experience) and last, but not least, Lil Fame and Boston buddy Termanology’s collaborative album, Fizzyology. Hit the jump to read our latest review in its entirety – Spotify album stream included.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
