After a week of complaints, Disqus comments and Hot 97 phone calls (“I gave Sway his first TV” – Kanye West, 2013), MTV have concluded their annual Hottest MCs in the Game list. All the details after the jump.

CHEATCODE_logo

By way of generational gaps or, tragically, death, Nas, Aerosmith and Frank Sinatra never had the chance to make music together, but CHEATCODE brings the three icons together in a conceptual collaboration with his new remix/mash-up, “Street Dreams.” The Western Massachusetts producer tosses Escobar’s classic It Was Written cut, Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and Sinatra’s “Young at Heart” into the blender, with a dash of his own bass-crunching instrumentation, to make for one intriguing, time-warping listen.

Like‘s output kinda oscillates between high profile productions (see: Kendrick Lamar “Sing About Me”) and low-key leaks. While his latest offering, a remake of Nas‘ “The World Is Yours,” is by no means a major release, that doesn’t serve to discredit its quality. Here, the Pac Div producer transplants Esco’s bars from Pete Rock‘s timeless, joyous beat to a more low-strung, horn-laced soundscape. The blend of vintage boom bap and eery synths definitely add intrigue.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
