With a new album out and a supporting role on Pac Div North American tour later this month, we caught up with Johnny Polygon to digest The Nothing, get the incredible backstory to his collaboration with Nas and learn why musicians’ lives are really just like movies.

I always think that all of us artists are sort of the star of our own biopic, and all the other artists we come in contact with are just someone making a little cameo.

It’s that time of week again where we recap on the past week’s biggest, funniest and often head-scratching news stories and bring you our five favorite, but slept-on, releases. That said, hit the jump and allow the sights and sounds of Bishop Nehru, Styles P, Pac Div, Torae and Deniro Farrar to bring this week to a close.

Like‘s output kinda oscillates between high profile productions (see: Kendrick Lamar “Sing About Me”) and low-key leaks. While his latest offering, a remake of Nas‘ “The World Is Yours,” is by no means a major release, that doesn’t serve to discredit its quality. Here, the Pac Div producer transplants Esco’s bars from Pete Rock‘s timeless, joyous beat to a more low-strung, horn-laced soundscape. The blend of vintage boom bap and eery synths definitely add intrigue.

Some of the Left Coast’s most skilled lyricists team up for “Cross Trainers,” the latest track to be released from Pac Div’s upcoming second album, GMB. This brash boom bap banger hears Kendrick Lamar and Blu join Mibbs, Like and BeYoung on the mic for what will likely be an album standout. GMB drops November 27.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
