A Harvard computer program attempted to quantify who is the best rapper of all time has been created. Rap lovers can often get carried away in never-ending debates and argument on hip-hop. Give it to Tahir Hemphill for coming up with a scientific program that measures mic skills – attempting to end the never-ending debates and arguments. Read more after the jump…

Bitch ends up appearing in almost a third of the songs. Hip-Hop is always villainized but people have to understand that Hip-Hop is a reflection of American culture, probably in one of its most distilled and pure forms.

It’s no secret: the Internet is flooded with music — both good and bad — but sometimes a gem surfaces onto the world wide web that makes all the hours spent of sampling crappy tracks worth it. Case in point: this unreleased record from Marco Polo and Rakim. “What’s Wrong,” a hearty, East Coast anthem, accentuated by layers of punchy drums, bellowing horns and expertly chopped soul samples. All that and the God MC’s unfaltering flow, of course.

Before we hear any results of that reported new single and full-length album (which is said to include production from Pharrell), this year, the God MC himself Rakim‘s first outing of 2013 comes via an unreleased gem from the vault. The Dominic Owen-produced “Bring It On” sounds fresh out of the Golden Age–because it actually is. This track was recorded in April ’95 at Brooklyn’s High Class Studios. Talk about a blast from the past, huh?

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
