RewindWednesdays

With sophomore albums from The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, and Wu-Tang, 1997 was an incredible year for Hip-Hop. Not only was the mainstream bubbling with artists of this caliber, but the underground saw an influx of burgeoning artists that talent-wise were cut of a similar cloth. Enter Black Attack. Although this New York rhyme sayers catalog never quite lived up what many of us had hoped for, he made a rather promising entrance in ’97 with two notable 12-inches, the first of which was the Correct Records released underground hit, “Holdin’ It Down” B/W the previously featured “Verbal Attack,” followed by what would become a classic Rawkus Records 12-inch, “My Crown” B/W “Correct Technique,” the subject of today’s Rewind Wednesdays. That said, stream the classic “My Crown” A-side below, and hit the jump for more details, B-side stream, and more! #RewindWednesdays

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
