CZARFACE is a shining example of how the richly talented just get more richly talented. In a genre that has seen more fads than hairstyles or hemlines, Inspectah Deck + 7L & Esoteric understand how to bring the timeless into the timely, effortlessly blending the old with the new. At every turn, CZARFACE demonstrate tremendous versatility, all the while illustrating why substance will always trump shine. Before we close out 2012, Roc Marci reloads the clip with a fresh new joint titled “Bally Belts.” Between all his guest features on albums such as Ka’s Grief Pedigree (“Iron Age”), Gangrene’s Vodka and Ayahuasca (“Drink It Up”), AWAR’s The Laws of Nature LP (“Cutthroat Rap”) and Termanology and Statik Selektah’s 2012 (“Thug Poets”), among others, combined with his highly anticipated follow-up full length Reloaded, it’s safe to say that the Hempstead native is coming off his most prolific and successful year to date. Eager to see what 2013 has in store for the former U.N. frontman.

Roc Marciano may not strike you as a must-listen, but it’s hard to ignore that he comes with critical acclaim, especially in the New York area. From his days in the Flipmode Squad (alongside Busta Rhymes and company) to his current situation with Decon Records, he’s traveled a long road to even arrive to this point. With his latest album, Roc continues his street narrative and stream-of-conscious like delivery over smooth, laid back instrumentals with. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
