Skyzoo‘s Band Practice series enters its fourth and final week ahead of the Brooklyn MC’s “The Writings of Skyzoo” concert tonight at Harlem’s newest hotspot, MIST. “Ticker Tape Parade” follows the same format as the previous offerings — Sky lacing Jazz production with his expert lyricism — but we’ve got zero complaints. Honestly, this is that type of music you hear and instantly realize every “hip-hop” record you hear blasting out of radio speakers is fucking trash.

If you’re down to support this man and his craft, head on down to MIST Harlem from 7pm tonight. The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee is hosting the event, which will find Skyzoo performing select cuts from his catalog alongside a seven-piece band. Tickets are available here.

While beef was on the menu last week, this week’s prominent news theme was a little more positive. Simply put, there’s a crap load of albums to get excited about. That said, let’s lend an eye and an ear to some of our favorite hidden gems from Skyzoo, Dizzy Wright, BJ The Chicago Kid, Dyme-A-Duzin and Bodega Bamz, after the jump.

Cassidy and Meek Mill‘s war of words may have petered out, but Joey Bada$$ and Lil B filled in for the latest episode of Lame Hip-Hop Beefs That Escalate Quickly. Yup, that was the story that captured our fickle attention this week. So while we all await to see how this whole situation unfolds in the week ahead, here’s some of the best music from the past seven days from Skyzoo, The Underachievers, Big Daddy Kane, Fizzyology and The Purist to keep you occupied.. hit the jump.

Skyzoo dons the iconic snapback-and-specs combo in the video to “Spike Lee Was My Hero.” There was no way Spike was missing a cameo in this.

The annual A3C Hip-Hop Festival took place earlier this month in Atlanta, and accordingly, the legendary Stankonia Studios have nabbed many of the bill’s top acts for their second compilation, Stankonia Sessions – A3C Edition 2012. Produced entirely by SMKA and The Flush, the album boasts appearances from some of indie rap’s finest, including Torae, Slum Village, Rapper Big Pooh, Phil Ade and King Chip (Chip Tha Ripper). West Coast MC Thurz, Bad Boy signee Los and BK lyricist Skyzoo also swung by the Stankonia Studios to collaborate for this funky number, “The Sparks,” which comes as the first track off the compilation, slated for a release next month. In the meantime, stream the new joint below.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
