All around a great project that pays homage to a hero. Stream the bonus track, “Kool Herc Fertile Crescent OUT NOW” (prod. by Alex “Apex” Gale) below and track four (“Dag, Philly Too”) off the album after the jump.

Boy Sand delivers the visuals for “Whatchu Want From Me” of his Stones Throw debut album First of a Living Breed. The visuals show Boy Sand getting some lip service from his lady friend while taking on a shlew of odd jobs around the NYC, such as street meat vendor, bike repairman and barber at NYC’s landmark Chop Shop.

A short while back, I was lamenting the lack of any recent hip hop albums that are both raw and emotive while taking advantage of today’s sound. Everything sounds so crafted, so heavily produced. I longed to hear something that sounded like something somebody made it. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t want everything to sound like Biz Markie circa 1989 (wait, actually that might be pretty okay). I just wanted to hear something real, a person talking about life in a regular way that makes you care what you are listening to. Enter Homeboy Sandman. Hit the jump to read the review for FIrst of a Living Breed in its entirety – Spotify album stream included.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
