Having kept our ears nicely fed with September’s 517 W Queen Tape, his second album as a solo artist, Blood on the Canvas, is where the real work comes in for THURZ. We’ve already heard the first single from the former U-N-I member’s LP with “Keep Livin” (which, in all honesty, left a little room in the gut), so it’s a good thing his follow-up, the THX-produced “Acura Legend,” bangs and bullies its way out of the speakers. Like the title suggests, this one will sound beautiful in the whip.

The homie Thurz blesses us with the first single from his sophomore solo album, Blood on the Canvas. Produced by frequent collaborators Phonix and DJ Khalil (sidebar: The Alchemist once called him “the best producer in the rap game right now“), “Keep Livin'” is an uplifting jam which does well to maintain the blend of melody and grit as heard on September’s 517 W Queen Tape. Jarell Perry harmonizes the track nicely to broaden the appeal of this lead single. As revealed in a recent interview with Prefix, Blood on the Canvas will feature GLC, Like from Pac Div, Black Milk, eLZhi, Ty$ and Miguel, and is expected out in the first quarter of 2013.

The video to Thurz and Johnny Polygon’s playful “Are You Not” collaboration (found on the former’s 517 W Queen Tape) really tries its luck when it comes to that NSFW tag.

The annual A3C Hip-Hop Festival took place earlier this month in Atlanta, and accordingly, the legendary Stankonia Studios have nabbed many of the bill’s top acts for their second compilation, Stankonia Sessions – A3C Edition 2012. Produced entirely by SMKA and The Flush, the album boasts appearances from some of indie rap’s finest, including Torae, Slum Village, Rapper Big Pooh, Phil Ade and King Chip (Chip Tha Ripper). West Coast MC Thurz, Bad Boy signee Los and BK lyricist Skyzoo also swung by the Stankonia Studios to collaborate for this funky number, “The Sparks,” which comes as the first track off the compilation, slated for a release next month. In the meantime, stream the new joint below.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
