uno hype

He may be a newcomer out of Maryland (hardly a hip-hop hotspot), but Uno Hype has already nailed down a very polished sound. The MC recruited some impressive names, like Joey Bada$$, Smoke DZA and CJ Fly, for April’s Fxck The Hype mixtape, and his next release, Lxve You All, is looking like it’ll follow suit. For its first single, “100 Feet Up,” Hype links up with another smalltown hero XV as well as Erick Arc Elliott of Flatbush Zombies. Production outfit Odd Couple (who handle the entire production duties on the EP) craft a vast sonic backdrop to give flight to the trio’s bars. We’re loving Lxve You All already.

HeroesAndSuperVillains_500

We’ve gone from a relatively quiet week this week, right to one full of drama. The Chief Keef/Lupe Fiasco episode came to a head (I hope) with Chief Keef claiming that his Twitter was hacked and I guess if he’s saying that, then he’s saying his threat to put hands on Lupe weren’t from him. It’s the thing to do these days…curse someone out then plead ‘Hacking’. Lupe then hinted towards his retirement from rap after Food and Liquor 2 drops. I sure as hell hope not. He’s the one artist I feel is saying all of the right things right now. There’s a price to pay for speaking the truth, it usually doesn’t end well for the person with the best intentions but Lupe will forever have my respect.

Not really ‘news’ as such but Joey BadA$$ dropped his REJEX mixtape yesterday and it’s fresh to death. Been bumping it all day. I’d really, really suggest downloading it.

Last of all but not least; Wiz Khalifa and his fiancée Amber Rose announced they are expecting their first child. A beautiful thing. They are very much in love and I am pleased for them both.

Here are my top five picks of the week…shouts to Skyzoo, Uno Hype, Smoke DZA, BRUTS, Brokn.Enlsh and Wordsmattic – hit the jump.

Curren$y – “Mary”

Directed by: CJ Wallis

He may be a self-confessed stoner, but Curren$y is far from lazy. When he’s not in the studio pumping out umpteen projects a year, Spitta is busy on the road. In the new alternative video to “Mary,” off his New Jet City mixtape, the Jet Life chief compiles live footage from three of his most recent shows in just under three minutes.

  1. Havoc (feat. Styles P & Raekwon) – “Favorite Rap Stars”
  2. Tree (feat. Danny Brown) – “No Faces”
  3. Mac Miller – “Watching Movies”
  4. Casey Veggies – “Money Don’t Buy Time” (prod. by Lee Bannon)
  5. The-Dream (feat. Jay-Z) – “High Art”
  6. Chance The Rapper & Nosaj Thing – “Paranoia”
  7. Mobb Deep – “Life We Chose” (Remix)
  8. Jon Connor (feat. Royce Da 5’9″) – “Michigan $h*t”
  9. Hannibal Stax & Marco Polo (feat. Torae) – “Warrior Drumz”
  10. Erick Arc Elliott – “50″
