asap rocky

We’ve heard of early leaks, but this is pretty ridiculous. Almost a whole month prior to its official release (January 15), A$AP Rocky‘s eagerly awaited debut album, Long.Live.A$AP, has suffered the fate of the leak, and surprise, surprise, the Internetz has already dug into on the most appetizing item on the menu: “1Train” featuring Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf, Danny Brown, Action Bronson & Big K.R.I.T.
Posse cuts have become more synonymous with major–and seriously monotonous–DJ Khaled-funded anthems (“Welcome to My Hood,” “All I Do Is Win,” “I’m So Hood”) in recent years, so not only is it refreshing to see a rap star usher some fresh new faces into the spotlight, but also help craft a true hip-hop posse cut that is fucking dope.
The seven MCs–a group in which the host doesn’t even take the gold ribbon for best verse–drop dimes over a boom-bap beat courtesy of Hit-Boy, who’s truly cementing his status as the most versatile producer in popular music right now.
Give “1Train” a spin below–come on, you know you ain’t waiting a whole month.

After letting go the aptly-titled “Let Me Out” cut prior to its release yesterday, Shady Records’ other white rapper Yelawolf – fresh off his “Growin’ Up In The Gutter” music video, which will surely raise a talking point or two – debuts his newest free project, Heart Of Dixie, which you can stream and download after the jump.

STREAM: Yelawolf – “Let Me Out”

Songs of heartbreak…a timeless theme found throughout the annals of music history. Yes, but not so much with hip-hop, which is why I particularly find it fascinating that both Rittz and Yelawolf, two Alabama natives both have songs about ‘done getting shitted on’ by their significant other (figuratively, wrong site for the literal interpretation). After listening/watching, I couldn’t help but recall a near identically themed record by Rittz’s fellow Yellowhammer State crony Yelawolf, who (and to further substantiate the irony here) is also featured on this song. Hit the jump to peep the visuals for “Sleep At Night”…inspirational song stream included.

Greg Grease – “Forward”

If you’ve managed to get this far during the week, you probably deserve a break. And what good timing to introduce Greg Grease‘s latest video for “Forward”, a stripped down, less-is-more banger that doesn’t need to be overdramatic to get it’s point across. Directed by Adam Dunn as a part of his #LABB (Lights and a Backdrop) series, the visuals are as minimalistic as it gets, allowing the Grease, his DJ and his turntable to play centre stage. Check it out and be sure to pick up Greg Grease’s Black King Cole EP if you don’t already own it.
